Today, the psalmist cries, “Out of the depths I cry to you, O Lord. Lord, hear my voice!” Who hasn’t made that desperate plea? In times of trouble, in times of despair, in times of need, God is there to share our pain and struggle. After all, we are his children.
Perhaps the more difficult issue of discipleship arises when we encounter those who cry out to us from the depths. Do we hear their voices, or do we ignore them, rationalizing that someone else will share their pain and struggle? Are they not our brothers and sisters?
Lord, help me today to be open to those who cry out to me.
