Sing to the Lord

Sing to the LORD a new song;
sing to the LORD, all you lands.
Sing to the LORD; bless his name;
announce his salvation, day after day.

Today’s psalm calls us to action.  That action is praise.  How often do we really praise God?  For most of us, it’s certainly less than we should.  After all, each of us is gifted by God.  Do we praise him every day for the special talents and abilities that come from the Father?  Or do we pat ourselves on the back and pretend that those talents are the sole result of our efforts?  Do we sing to the Lord a new song every day, or do we simply repeat comfortable ways of encountering God that fail to “announce his salvation,” as the psalmist says?

Let us sing to the Lord a new song, one that will bless his holy name!

    Many faithful Catholics use the ACTS (adoration, confession, thanksgiving, supplication) formula for prayer. This formula allows one to praise God first before praying for others or ourselves. It’s a good way of putting God first and to focus on loving God with all our heart, soul, and mind.
