God With Us

In today’s passage from the gospel of Mathew, we hear a piece of the story of the birth of Jesus.  Today’s reading focuses on the prophesy of Isaiah heralding the coming of the Messiah:

Behold, the virgin shall be with child and bear a son,
and they shall name him Emmanuel, which means God is with us.

What does it mean that God is with us?  It means that no matter what challenges we face, no matter how hard the bumps in our road seem, it has all been taken care of in the end through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus.  The God who is with us is the one who knows us each by name and who came in the world for us, individually.

Come, Lord Jesus!
