Who is the Liar?

Today’s reading from the First Letter of John asks and answers the most provocative question in all of the scriptures.

Who is the liar?
Whoever denies that Jesus is the Christ.

In our current age of spiritual relativism, there are many that believe that Jesus is only one possible way of experiencing God, and that belief in Jesus is not essential to obtaining salvation.  After all, they say, how can we really believe that the millions of Buddhists, Muslims, Hindus, etc. won’t be saved?  It’s a seductive question, one that deserves an honest answer.  Jesus gave us the answer.  He told us that he is the Christ.  He said that he is the way, the truth and the life, and that whoever believes in him will never die.  He told us that he and the Father are one.

Do we believe him or don’t we?

It’s not a multiple choice question.  It is the most important question we will ever answer.

So what say you?  Yes or no?
