Today’s first reading tells us the story of how the Philistines defeated the army of Israel in battle, killed thirty thousand men and captured the Ark of the Covenant.  What a distressing tale!  Yet … doesn’t it teach us a lesson about our journey in faith?

Sometimes in our lives we just simply fail to trust enough to do the will of God.  There are times when all of us find ways to hide from God’s face.  However, experience over time teaches us that God will not let us be defeated in the long run. Eventually, our individual “Ark” is returned to us to cherish.  We will find our way back to the straight path though the gentle prodding of our God.

So, do not fear when you suffer a setback in faith and feel defeated.  God will redeem you yet!
