Prayer is our connection to God in both a personal and private way. For most of us, prayer is a comfort and a strength. However, even among those with a robust prayer life, there are times when we find it difficult to pray. These “dry” periods in our prayer life can be extremely frustrating.
So how can you break out and leave your dry periods behind? In my experience, the best way is to utilize multiple prayer methods. Formal prayer, free flowing prayer, meditating on the scriptures, contemplation and communal prayer are examples. If you most often use one of these methods, and a dry period emerges, try to mix things up and spend some time in one of the other methods. Pretty soon, you will find that your prayer life will freshen up.
