In the letter of James that we read today, he warns against doubt in the faithfulness of God in providing us with necessary wisdom.
But if any of you lacks wisdom,
he should ask God who gives to all generously and ungrudgingly,
and he will be given it.
But he should ask in faith, not doubting,
for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea
that is driven and tossed about by the wind.
How difficult these words are to live out! Aren’t all of us at times tossed about by doubt? The answer is yes, but we are challenged by James to control and contain those doubts. How can we achieve this? James reminds us of the answer. We must begin with and rely upon our faith in Christ Jesus. Only then can we conquer our doubts and acquire the wisdom borne upon the certainty of faith.
