This is Monday of Holy Week. Holy Week is so called not just because the events surrounding the passion and death of Jesus occur over these days, but also because those events call each of us to a personal holiness, a renewal of our spirituality in light of the sacrifice of Jesus.
As we enter into this renewal, let us reflect today on the most holy mother of the Lord, the Blessed Virgin Mary. How she must have suffered as she saw her son betrayed, handed over, beaten and crucified. Yet, she chose to be present and witness Jesus’ fulfillment of his mission despite how painful it must have been. She was his first and best disciple. Because of her total submission in faith to God’s plan of salvation, Mary is honored above all women. She is not only the mother of Jesus, she is the mother of all of us.
Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou amongst women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God, that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
