Why Are You Amazed?

After healing a crippled man, Peter was dismayed by the reaction of the people around him.  They seemed not to believe that it was possible that the miracle had occurred.  Peter then chastised them sharply.

You children of Israel, why are you amazed at this,
and why do you look so intently at us
as if we had made him walk by our own power or piety?
The God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob,
the God of our fathers, has glorified his servant Jesus
whom you handed over and denied in Pilate’s presence,
when he had decided to release him.

Are we, too, amazed when we see the results of God’s action in our lives?  Do we not know that the Lord is capable of transforming us into the creation he envisioned for us from the beginning of time?  Do we believe that God is the source of all of the gifts we receive every day?  Or do we think that what we have and who we are is a product of our own ability, or perhaps just pure chance?

Faith is knowing that the impossible is possible for God.
