Do you realize that you are consecrated through your faith in Christ Jesus?  You are, because of your love of the truth, the living Word of God.  To be consecrated means that you are made sacred, set apart as one who is dedicated for service to the Lord.  In today’s passage from John’s gospel, Jesus reminds us that our consecration is always connected with his own.

Consecrate them in the truth.
Your word is truth.
As you sent me into the world,
so I sent them into the world.
And I consecrate myself for them,
so that they also may be consecrated in truth.

Are we ready to be sacred ministers of the Word?  Can we live our lives in the world while still being set apart from the world by our service to the Lord?  The answer is, of course, yes we can.  You might wonder how we can find the fortitude on a daily basis to be one of those set apart by Christ, but you need not wonder.  Jesus gives himself to us daily in his Word, in his gift of the Eucharist and in his holy Church.  Make sure that you avail yourself of one or more of these as often as you can, and you will be made worthy to be one of his disciples.
