From time to time, all of us lose track of what it takes to be a follower of Jesus. In particular, we sometimes focus all of our attention on the practice of worshipping the Lord while failing to act in loving ways in our relationships with each other. It is essential that our actions and our worship harmonize with each other. The commandments that Jesus gave us are to love God with all of our heart, soul and mind and to love one another as He loved us. In today’s gospel, Jesus emphasizes how these commandments must be harmonized in our lives.
Therefore, if you bring your gift to the altar,
and there recall that your brother
has anything against you,
leave your gift there at the altar,
go first and be reconciled with your brother,
and then come and offer your gift.
To be reconciled to the Lord we must also be reconciled with our brothers and sisters. Let us be humble enough to seek that reconciliation.
