One of the challenges we face on our spiritual journey is our natural tendency to emphasize the faults and sins of others, while simultaneously being overly forgiving of our own errors and weaknesses. Jesus wants us to do better, as evidenced by today’s gospel reading.
How can you say to your brother,
‘Let me remove that splinter from your eye,’
while the wooden beam is in your eye?
You hypocrite, remove the wooden beam from your eye first;
then you will see clearly
to remove the splinter from your brother’s eye.”
Lord, help me today to see clearly the faults that I have, and let me be generous in my opinion of others.
