Seek Good

Every once in a while I have a moment of clarity about how to improve my relationship with the Lord.  I had one of those when I read today’s first reading.

Seek good and not evil,
that you may live;
Then truly will the LORD, the God of hosts,
be with you as you claim!
Hate evil and love good,
and let justice prevail at the gate;
Then it may be that the LORD, the God of hosts,
will have pity on the remnant of Joseph.

Seek good and not evil.  Can it really be that simple?  Yes.  Seek the good in everyone we encounter.  Seek the good in every situation.  Seek the good in our relationships, in our friends, in our families.  Also seek the good in our struggles, seek the good in our pain, seek the good in our disappointments.

Hate evil.  To do this we need to know what evil is.  Evil is anything that draws our hearts away from God’s love.  Avoid these things and we will be truly free to love the Lord and each other.

One Response to Seek Good

    When I was a catechist my mantra was——life can be easy——you have two
    choices, right or wrong! (Don’t always practice what I preach!). So, right or
    wrong, good or bad, evil or godly, we have the choice!
