The psalm reading for today reflects something that all of us have experienced at one time or another — real, honest despair and suffering at the direction our lives have taken.
Rescue me out of the mire; may I not sink!
may I be rescued from my foes,
and from the watery depths.
Let not the flood-waters overwhelm me,
nor the abyss swallow me up,
nor the pit close its mouth over me.
How fortunate we are that our God loves us so intimately that he listens to and answers our cries! He offers mercy and forgiveness to us sinners. He gives sight to the blind and comfort to the brokenhearted.
Why does he care? Because he created us out of love, and desires that we live in and through that love.
