There is a great benefit in taking time to be alone with God. In the midst of our busy lives we often neglect to take advantage of opportunities to reflect and pray in solitude. Jesus understood this, and did so often. Today’s gospel passage is an example.
Jesus made the disciples get into a boat
and precede him to the other side of the sea,
while he dismissed the crowds.
After doing so, he went up on the mountain by himself to pray.
When it was evening he was there alone.
It was this solitude and prayer that strengthened Jesus. Why then do we resist the power of aloneness with God? Just like Jesus, we need to be strengthened through prayer to do the good works we are called to do.
So take an opportunity today to find a quiet place to be alone with the Lord. Listen to his voice, and find his will and desire for you this day!
