Observe What is Right

good-samaritan

Do the right thing.  How many times have we heard this maxim?  And how many times have we found excuses to justify why we failed to do what is right?  Excuses are not enough, as we learn from today’s first reading from Isaiah.

Thus says the LORD:
Observe what is right, do what is just;
for my salvation is about to come,
my justice, about to be revealed.

The Lord requires nothing less than observance of what is right, not what we would like to be right and just.  We cannot deceive ourselves that our judgments are greater than those of God.

Do what is just.
