Avoid Idolatry

In the Old Testament there are many stories of the children of Israel practicing idolatry, which is essentially the worship of something other than God.  In today’s reading from the first letter to the Corinthians, Paul warns us of falling into this false system of belief.

My beloved ones, avoid idolatry.
I am speaking as to sensible people;
judge for yourselves what I am saying.
The cup of blessing that we bless,
is it not a participation in the Blood of Christ?
The bread that we break,
is it not a participation in the Body of Christ?
Because the loaf of bread is one,
we, though many, are one Body,
for we all partake of the one loaf.

If we are truly a part of the body of Christ, we must help each other to avoid false beliefs and false practices.  In Christ, there is no room for worship of idols such as money, possessions, greed or fame.  There is only the Body, the cup of blessing that we bless.

Praise his Holy Name.

One Response to Avoid Idolatry

    So much in today’s world celebrates such idolatry, thus, we have today’s world!
    We must be unwavering in prayer!
