In recent years, it has become trendy to have a devotion to angels.  Unfortunately, the interest in angels has resulted with some of the faithful falling into a “New Age” understanding of these celestial beings.  Fortunately there is an antidote to these misperceptions.  The antidote is the scriptures!  Today we celebrate the feast of the great Archangels Michael, Gabriel and Raphael.  Their service to God is outlined in today’s reading from Revelation.

War broke out in heaven;
Michael and his angels battled against the dragon.
The dragon and its angels fought back,
but they did not prevail
and there was no longer any place for them in heaven.
The huge dragon, the ancient serpent,
who is called the Devil and Satan,
who deceived the whole world,
was thrown down to earth,
and its angels were thrown down with it.

These great Saints of God played an integral role in the subjugation of the Evil One.  They are to be revered and honored.

Saints Michael, Gabriel and Raphael, pray for us.

    All day, all night, angels watching over me!
    Good to have an angel in your corner!
