Let’s face it. For much of our lives we worry and fret about things that are irrelevant to God. We squander much of our time and energy on the pursuit of making money and climbing the ladder of success and influence. We are obsessed with how we look. We measure ourselves by how many friends we have and our perception of how much others admire and love us.
In today’s first reading, Paul chastises us for failing to understand that those things are not important and that Christ should be our focus.
For all of you who were baptized into Christ
have clothed yourselves with Christ.
There is neither Jew nor Greek,
there is neither slave nor free person,
there is not male and female;
for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s descendants,
heirs according to the promise.
Make us one with our sisters and brothers in you, Lord Jesus.
