Jesus never hesitated when it came to telling the absolute truth. He knew that sometimes hearing out loud the ways that we have fallen short can inspire us to do better. In today’s gospel, Jesus reminds us that our sinfulness cannot be concealed from God.
There is nothing concealed that will not be revealed,
nor secret that will not be known.
Therefore whatever you have said in the darkness
will be heard in the light,
and what you have whispered behind closed doors
will be proclaimed on the housetops.
Do we know in our hearts that this is true? Do we live authentically as followers of Jesus when no one is around? Can we conform ourselves to Jesus so that what we speak in the darkness can be proudly proclaimed and heard in the light?
