One of the things that we all must keep in mind is that we are constantly in a spiritual battle. There will always be people or circumstances in our lives that can potentially draw us away from the truth of our faith. Sometimes it happens intentionally, in other times it can occur just as a result of well intentioned friends and relatives expressing opinions about their own personal views of our church and its teachings. An example is someone who in the spirit of “tolerance” tries to convince us that there is no real difference between Christianity and the other world religions. That view, while certainly tolerant, is also absolutely false.
In today’s first reading, Paul warns us against the dangers of these types of falsehoods.
Let no one deceive you with empty arguments,
for because of these things
the wrath of God is coming upon the disobedient.
So do not be associated with them.
For you were once darkness,
but now you are light in the Lord.
Live as children of light.
We must remain in the light. The truth of Jesus Christ is more precious than anything else we possess, even our popularity, social standing, friends or even family. I know, this is a hard saying. Be strong. Sometimes the truth is hard.
Let no one deceive you. Jesus is the only way. Jesus is the only hope. Jesus is the only life.
There is no other.
