Meditate

Turkey, Istanbul, Mosaic of Christ Pantocrator in Haghia Sophia Mosque

Our first reading today from the book of Revelation instructs us to meditate on the law of the Lord.  What does that mean?  Are we being told that we need to become scholars of the law?  The reading itself provides us with the answer.

Blessed the man who follows not
the counsel of the wicked
Nor walks in the way of sinners,
nor sits in the company of the insolent,
But delights in the law of the LORD
and meditates on his law day and night.

How do we meditate on God’s law?  We do it by understanding the differences between the things that bring us closer to God and the things that separate us from him and each other.

Avoid sin.  Refuse to participate in evil. Do what is good.  Be merciful to those who do not deserve it.  Give to those in need.  Open your heart to forgiveness.

Love without reservation.
