Living and Effective

The Word of God Logo

Follow Jesus in a serious way and you are certain to have days when you feel really bad about yourself.  After all, we are human and fail sometimes to put our faith into action. However, as today’s first reading from Hebrews reminds us, the Lord discerns the reflections and thoughts of our hearts..  Because of that, he knows that our hearts yearn to be faithful to his word, and he forgives us our failings.

The word of God is living and effective,
sharper than any two-edged sword,
penetrating even between soul and spirit,
joints and marrow,
and able to discern reflections and thoughts of the heart.
No creature is concealed from him,
but everything is naked and exposed to the eyes of him
to whom we must render an account.

What we should offer the Lord are our best efforts to share his love with those around us. Even if we sometimes fail he blesses us and strengthens us.  So keep moving forward.  If our hearts are set in the right direction, we will become living and effective ministers of the Word.

Comforting words! As you say, as human beings, we will mess up, but God
    knows our heart!
