Hospitality

Group Of Friends Enjoying Meal outdoorss

How do we spread the gospel?  Through all means possible.

Some of those ways are set forth in today’s first reading from Hebrews.

Let brotherly love continue.
Do not neglect hospitality,
for through it some have unknowingly entertained angels.
Be mindful of prisoners as if sharing their imprisonment,
and of the ill-treated as of yourselves,
for you also are in the body.
Let marriage be honored among all
and the marriage bed be kept undefiled,
for God will judge the immoral and adulterers.
Let your life be free from love of money
but be content with what you have,
for he has said, I will never forsake you or abandon you.

Visit those in prison?  Sure.  Honor marriage?  Absolutely.  Don’t grasp for wealth? Check. But hospitality?  What does being hospitable have to do with spreading the gospel?

Everything.  Offering hospitality to those around us is the gateway to softening hearts. Some of us think that all evangelization is sermonizing, but the most effective way  to do so is by freely sharing our lives of joy in Christ.

One Response to Hospitality

  1. Nancy Novicki says:

Take for instance the dinners at ChristLife. Observe! Old acquaintances, new
acquaintances, old friends, new friends, smiling, sharing, helping. Coming to-
gether for a meal which all fits into the bigger picture! Think about it! Think
    about it!
