I don’t know about you, but I’ve never really been asked to give up much in order to follow Jesus. The same cannot be said of Peter and the other disciples of Jesus. They gave up everything that they had, including their families, friends and their work. In faith, they entered into a new future because they wanted a deeper relationship with the Lord.
Peter began to say to Jesus,
‘We have given up everything and followed you.”
Jesus said, “Amen, I say to you,
there is no one who has given up house or brothers or sisters
or mother or father or children or lands
for my sake and for the sake of the Gospel
who will not receive a hundred times more now in this present age:
houses and brothers and sisters
and mothers and children and lands,
with persecutions, and eternal life in the age to come.
But many that are first will be last, and the last will be first.”
Are we ready to give up our comfortable lives and follow Jesus? Are we able to change the paradigm of our lives to make Jesus our first priority? Or are we satisfied with the status quo?
Nothing is stopping us but ourselves. It’s up to us.
