Ears Open to Obedience

What is the secret of living a holy life?  Consider what the psalmist tells us in today’s passage from Psalm 40.

Blessed the man who makes the LORD his trust;
who turns not to idolatry
or to those who stray after falsehood.

Sacrifice or oblation you wished not,
but ears open to obedience you gave me.
Burnt offerings or sin-offerings you sought not;
then said I, “Behold I come.”

“In the written scroll it is prescribed for me.
To do your will, O my God, is my delight,
and your law is within my heart!”

I announced your justice in the vast assembly;
I did not restrain my lips, as you, O LORD, know.

It’s all about having trust that the Lord will lead you in right ways.  How do we do that? We keep our ears open to obedience.  Sometimes we have a problem with obedience because our will interferes with our honest submission to God.

Remember, God will never set you on the wrong path.

One Response to Ears Open to Obedience

  1. Mary Thomas says:

    Sometimes it is difficult to actually listen to what we hear. Thankfully, our God is a patient God and continues to talk to us so that we will listen to what he has to say to us.
