An Arrogant Man

I confess, my sisters and brothers, that for many years I was the poster child for arrogance and selfishness.  Yet, like Paul in today’s reading from the Letter to Timothy, I too was touched by the grace of God’s forgiveness and inspiration.

I am grateful to him who has strengthened me, Christ Jesus our Lord,
because he considered me trustworthy
in appointing me to the ministry.
I was once a blasphemer and a persecutor and an arrogant man,
but I have been mercifully treated
because I acted out of ignorance in my unbelief.
Indeed, the grace of our Lord has been abundant,
along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.

I suspect that many of you have a similar story.  All of us have experienced the mercy of God that brings us home to him.

Praised be the name of the Lord!
