Like a Tree

Today’s psalm emphasizes the necessity of living with in concert with God’s desire for our happiness.  What makes us happy in the long run?  It isn’t money or fame or influence.  All of those things are fleeting.  The things that last are honesty, integrity, sacrifice and love.

Blessed the man who follows not
the counsel of the wicked
Nor walks in the way of sinners,
nor sits in the company of the insolent,
But delights in the law of the LORD
and meditates on his law day and night.

He is like a tree
planted near running water,
That yields its fruit in due season,
and whose leaves never fade.
Whatever he does, prospers.

Not so the wicked, not so;
they are like chaff which the wind drives away.
For the LORD watches over the way of the just,
but the way of the wicked vanishes.

Godly men and women are like a great tree with deep roots.  The wind will blow, storms will come, but those who trust in the Lord will always find consolation in their relationship with him.

How deep are your roots?
