For Your Good

tencommandments

How do we know what is right and good, and what is not?  We read the scriptures and follow the precepts of God, the commandments.  Remember them?

Thus says the LORD, your redeemer,
the Holy One of Israel:
I, the LORD, your God,
teach you what is for your good,
and lead you on the way you should go.
If you would hearken to my commandments,
your prosperity would be like a river,
and your vindication like the waves of the sea;
Your descendants would be like the sand,
and those born of your stock like its grains,
Their name never cut off
or blotted out from my presence.

In case we have forgotten them, here they are:

  1.  I am the Lord your God; you shall not have strange gods before me.

2.   You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.

3.   Remember to keep holy the Lord’s day.

4.   Honor your father and your mother.

5.   You shall not kill.

6.   You shall not commit adultery.

7.   You shall not steal.

8.   You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

9.   You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife.

10.  You shall not covet you neighbor’s goods.
