Martyr for the Faith

By now we all have heard of the horrifying  murder of Fr. Jacques Hamil during Mass in Normandy, France yesterday by Islamic terrorists.  When I heard the news, my first thought was the stark contrast between those who pervert religion by seeking to kill others and the sacrificial love of the Lord Jesus Christ that is the heart of the Mass.

My second thought was that the Catholic Church remains the most visible sign of Christianity in the world. It is the Church that the Islamic terrorists fear and oppose.  The terrible murder of Father Hamil should remind us that the the evil one remains active, and he hates the celebration of the Mass.

Here’s the good news.  In the end, the forces of darkness are defeated and Jesus wins.

For Father Hamil we pray:

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord
and let perpetual light shine upon him.

May he rest in peace. Amen.

May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed,
through the mercy of God, rest in peace.  Amen.

It is a truly sad day when mass cannot be celebrated without fear of death in this day and age. Father Hamil RIP. I pray that something good comes from this and stays with us.
