End Times

Have you ever thought that with the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentacost we entered the days of waiting for the second coming of Christ, the end times?

We know that the end times will come, and it is just human nature to try to “read the signs” and figure out for ourselves when Jesus will come back to renew the earth. Sometimes we confuse the normal tumult of worldly affairs with the end of days.  Jesus reveals to us the shape of the world which will be evident when the radical transformation of all of us will be made manifest.

Then they asked him,
“Teacher, when will this happen?
And what sign will there be when all these things are about to happen?”
He answered,
“See that you not be deceived,
for many will come in my name, saying,
‘I am he,’ and ‘The time has come.’
Do not follow them!
When you hear of wars and insurrections,
do not be terrified; for such things must happen first,
but it will not immediately be the end.”
Then he said to them,
“Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.
There will be powerful earthquakes, famines, and plagues
from place to place;
and awesome sights and mighty signs will come from the sky.”

It won’t be subtle.  The signs that Jesus tells us about cannot be mistaken with the typical troubles that confront us every day.  We should steadfastly continue to carry out his work in our day to day lives.  The end times may occur tomorrow, or perhaps not for ten billion tomorrows.

It really doesn’t matter, does it?  If we are in Christ such things will not concern us.

  1. We will each most likely have our own personal “end time” as we leave our physical life to continue our spiritual journey. Attention to this fact will keep us mindful of centering our life on God.

  2. Joseph C Healy says:

Yes. Chances are that we will not be here for the end of the world because our end of the world will come long before that, and it could come at any time – even within the next hour, so we should be living every moment as if it is our last because it may be.

  3. Nancy Novicki says:

So, then, you also must be prepared, for at an hour you do not expect, the Son
    Of Man will come!

  4. Rodger Oursler says:

When Jesus Christ first came into this world, it was in a form and a manner that was totally unexpected by the jewish people, yet in retrospect, still very true to the scriptures. I suspect that when he returns, it will once again be in a surprising way that no one has anticipated, and yet when we look back we will see how it made perfect sense.
