The Narrow Gate

The Christian life can be hard at times, especially when we see others “getting ahead” at our expense.  It is natural to be a little bit jealous when we see them harvesting the fruits of naked self interest.  However, we know that the Lord desires that we not take advantage of our sisters and brothers, but rather be extravagantly generous and merciful.

Jesus does not want us to greedily walk through life, he instead desires that we walk the road less travelled that leads to eternal life.

Enter through the narrow gate;
for the gate is wide and the road broad that leads to destruction,
and those who enter through it are many.
How narrow the gate and constricted the road that leads to life.
And those who find it are few.

Let us pray for one another, that we have the faith and the love to enter through the narrow gate and be counted as one of the chosen.

    This gospel reading, the very words of Jesus, pretty much refutes what we have lately been hearing preached from our bishops on down, that because God made us to spend eternity with Him, the odds are that our eternity will be in heaven, and that many of the people that we would expect to be damned, we may find in heaven. Preaching the love of God is fine, but don’t forget that God is just as well as merciful, and the souls going to hell are many.

    I have told Ellen many times that some day I will write a book entitled, “Heaven Isn’t As Crowded As You Think!”

      If I’m still around when you finish that book be sure to get a copy to me. If I’m not, I will try to help you with it if I can, from the spirit world.

    Why does the road seem so narrow? Maybe it’s because we are not
    giving enough witness to those who want to seek & find the narrow
    way! Be our way, be our truth, be our light, O Lord, & lead us Lord
